ndian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched an Industrial Energy Assessment Cell (IEAC) to help assess the industry requirements of small and large businesses to help them reduce energy costs, India Today has reported.
This cell will comprise of undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars who will perform these assessments under the guidance of faculty members. The service is available free of cost for students.
The institute claims that the recommendations if implemented would help the industries achieve savings between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore. A couple of firms which had already implemented the recommendations have achieved savings up to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.
In future, IIT Madras hopes to help establish similar cells in other IITs and NITs to help create an ecosystem to channel energy conservation. The IEAC team would also in future try to implement data science and AI technologies for optimising manufacturing in small and medium-sized enterprises.
