ural Tamil Nadu schools have produced great scientists in the past. A lot of efforts are taken by the Government to enrich the science learning by students. To produce more research scholars in science, learning by experimenting needs to start from schooling itself.
A lot of SIGs (self interest groups) have shown tremendous interest in getting the science experiments done by students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. This effort not only makes learning interesting, but also teaching easier in a shorter timeframe.
Catch them young. Kids have amazing capacity to learn at lightning speed.
One such model school block
Recently we met a voluntary group that has initiated one such program. Sri Sankara Middle School in Kodavasal Block, Thiruvarur district has started this program for core physics experiments. A science coach will take equipment, will show experiments in one school in the morning and one school in the afternoon. Then the students will be coached to do experiments by themselves.
This keeps initial procurement cost low and best utility of time. The following areas are concentrated for this quarter.
- Magnetism
- Light
- Sound
- Electricity
- Measurements and Force
Kudos to Sankara School. http://sankara-school.in/
I wish I got this chance when I was in my 6th grade!
