killed, semi-skilled and unskilled human resource needs are ever increasing. When I analyzed NSDC report on skill gap, just for one state, I was stunned to see the gap we have. This is really alarming. On one side, we say jobs are not there; this report clearly shows that it is the skill shortage that makes industry to suffer.
For the period 2012-2017, the incremental requirement was 51 lacs people and the availability was 35 lacs.
For the period 2017-2022, the incremental requirement is 87 lacs people and the availability projected is 39 lacs.
This shows that the availability of human resource has only marginally increased from 35 lacs to 39 lacs.; but the requirement of people sharply increased from 51 lacs to 85 lacs! The gap keeps widening.
Education and vocational training alone can help to resolve this. There is no quick fix to this solution. Industry and academia must work very closely to fill this gap.
Every position in the gap, may go to some other country! So better we buckle up now and train the current and next gen very seriously.
